Do you have a question about The Postmodern Pet custom pet portraits, hand painted using oil paints on stretched canvas? Please see below for further information.
What sizes do you paint?
I have three standard sizes available on my website.
- Small Pet Portraits are 31x31cm (12”x12”)
- Medium Pet Portraits are 31x61cm (12”x24”)
- Large Pet Portraits are 61x61cm (24”x24”)
If you would like a custom sized portrait, just let me know and I can arrange a customised quote for you.
How long does a painting take?
My paintings typically take between 4 to 10 hours to complete. However, there are four stages that your order will go through which can affect the time taken to receive your portrait – sketching, painting, drying and shipping.
You will typically receive an image of your completed painting within one week of processing your order. There is then a one-week drying period before shipping, which can take up to two weeks depending on your location.
How do I choose the right photo?
There are a few different options for selecting the right photo. You can send me your favourite image or I can select a few options from your Instagram feed and confirm the final selection with you.
A lot of customers find this part of the process very difficult because their pet has a perfect expression in one photo and a perfect pose in another.
If that is the case, just send them both through and I’ll create a new image that merges the best of both images.
How do I see the price in different currencies?

Shopify converts prices with the conversion rate that they will charge at checkout.

Sarah Ranner - Artist & Owner
Sarah is the artist behind The Postmodern Pet. Sarah has been painting bespoke animal portraits in the Sydney area for over 20 years. Utilising oil paints on stretched canvas, Sarah's hand painted artistic style is somewhere between pop-art and impressionism. Figures are shown in a realistic form, with exaggerated colours that provide a happy and bright visual effect.
Charlie Ranner - Head of Manufacturing
Charlie is a seven year old Ginger and White Cat (a.k.a. an Alley Cat). Charlie is in charge of everything that takes place in the art studio here at The Postmodern Pet. He decides which materials are available to use (by sitting on any paint brushes or colours that he thinks Sarah is trying to use in error), decides when Sarah can take breaks (by demanding scratches) and sometimes just sits on Sarah's lap to weight her down and make sure she gets the job done.
Ziggy Ranner - Head of Distribution
Ziggy is a two year old Miniature Pinscher (a.k.a. Min Pin). Ziggy isn't even slightly interested in the manufacturing process - he wants to go to the park and meet potential customers! Ziggy makes sure Sarah doesn't sit all day (which she is very grateful for) and can be seen in most time-lapse video's crawling all over the peripheral - waiting for his chance.
Dusty Ranner - Head of Nap Times
Dusty is a baby Chihuahua who joined the family in 2020. Dusty is obsessed with everyone and everything. She’s so excited about helping Sarah paint, Ziggy walk and Charlie inspect that she’s exhausted more often than not! Dusty makes sure everyone gets together and naps whenever possible.
